This book is dedicated to a certain man who I fell in love with, in 2012. Because he did not feel the same way these poems poured out of me. It is strange how grateful I am to someone who broke and crushed my heart. I will forever be thankful for these poems which would never have been born if I had been able to protect my heart as he had suggested.
Read about my journey teaching English in Poland. This is the book I would have loved to read before I began my teaching journey overseas. In my 50’s and single again with an empty nest I decided to seek adventure and travel; teaching English in foreign lands seemed exciting. Was it?

I was born in Toronto, Canada, to an Irish father and Canadian mother. Because my father was Irish, born in Dublin, I was able to apply for an Irish passport. This passport has been very valuable as it enabled me to work in any of the countries that had joined the European Union. My family moved to California in the 50s and then we moved back up to Canada when I was 11. My teenage years were spent in Toronto and I moved to Vancouver to live with my sister in the 70s. I was a single mother then and I took my son with me to British Columbia.
I’ve been married and divorced twice. In my 50s I decided it was time to make a career change again. I took a course on teaching English as a second language and found my first job in Poland.
When I retired I decided to move to Ireland a place where people spoke English. As an ex-pat who lived in Poland, the Czech Republic, and finally in Greece I longed to live in a place where people spoke my native language. I'm quite happy living in Ireland now and I’m beginning to slowly make friends and getting used to living in another new country. .
